Great Summer Concert
Welcomme to the Canta Vivace C hoir’s Summer Concert, accompanied by professional instrumentalists. The program features works of sacred music previously unpublished in the country.
Michael Haydn’s Requiem (not to be confused with his brother Joseph) is little known. Preceding Mozart’s by 20 years, it shares somme similarities with the latter. Mozart probably heard it before composing his own Requiem. The differents parts that make it up are particularly contrasting.
Pergolesi’s Magnificat is grandiose and triumphant, the apotheosis of his author’s genius.
Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater is overwhelmingly emotional.
As for Ola Gjeilo’s piece, “Dark and Luminous Night”, it is somptuous. Written in a contemporary style, it features very rich harmonics and a astonishing polyphony, sometimes with eight different voices.
